ECOLOGIC HOUSES

What ?

All kind of houses can exist, big, small, made of wood, concrete etc.

I’m going to present you alternative housing, meaning that it can be Architecture Projects as well as what is called “Tiny-Houses”. Despite what we think it is actually possible to find relatively cheap, and good for the environment houses. Because yes, it not reserved to the elite. Even us, the common mortals, can afford one.

Tiny-Houses : there isn’t actually one kind. There is a lot of different tiny houses, their common ground is obviously a small space that has been think in a special way, more efficient, and turn towards ecologic interest.

But you don’t really see what I’m talking about.

Here a couple of links where you can find with some explanation of the way of living of the owners :

Here is an example of the exterior of a tiny house :

To give you an idea of the price this one is, everything including, (furnitures etc.) around 12 000 $.

Architecture project : Rehabilitation. I’m going to focus on the project of the Bois-Le -Prêtre tower in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.

With this project, they are rethinking the space, not destroying everything but building around what already exists in order to gain space, sunlight and reduce the heat needed for the flats, to reduce by 50% the power consumption of the building.

There actually more and more people and architects working on green projects, all over the world. But there is too many to inform you about each, since its project is really particular even though we can find some resemblance between them.

Why ?

Both of Tiny houses and the Architects plans are good alternatives. In one, you build your own house, small, in the other one you can have the chance to live in a building where everything has been think or rethink. There’s just one big difference, the price. (And the materials of course).

Where ?

Well you can have your Tiny House pretty much everywhere, you can if you want to make it like some kind of caravan, with tires. Of course here in Paris I don’t really see where you could have it, but otherwise it is only up to you ! (Most of the time, the tiny houses owners live in small villages, closer to the nature, but it is absolutely not necessary)

As for the architect project, well they are everywhere. I talked to you about this one but in the book we can find many more.

For Who ?

Well the tiny houses are for everyone, especially if you have a tight budget. But since it’s really small, I’m not sure whether it’s suitable for a family or not.

The architect project, it’s for the lucky ones ! I say that because it’s the kind of place that are likely to go fast on the market.

Ecologic Interest ?

The tiny house are really small and made of recycled materials. You don’t pollute as you make them and they’re so tiny that it has a really law cost of energy consumption (and that is good for both the environment and your wallet !).

The architect projects prevent some building to be destroyed and help reducing energy consumption.

Negative points :

Tiny house :

- Not for big families

- Not possible in big cities

Architect project :

- Very slow to implement

- Can be quite expensive

Positive Points :

Tiny house :

- Not big energy consumption

- Very low cost of production

- Mobility (if tires)

- Auto-sufficient house (if solar panel for instance)

Architect project :

- Help to rehabilitate some old buildings

- Create new houses/flat/work space with a low energy consumption
