What ?
Today, we live in a world of consumerism which incites us to buy more and more goods and services with an amount of commercials and promotional offers that has increased a lot since years. But, are we always aware of what we pay money for ?
“Consom’Action” is an expression which means that people can deliver from this consumerism society and decide to spend their money in things they believe that are ethically right and to defend their opinion.
Consom’Action especially concerns ecology. For instance, it can mean for a consumer who wants to preserve the environment buying organic and local foods (see the article on “AMAP) or to stop buying meet (see the article “Consume less meat”). It’s a way to promote ecology via economy, original right ?
Boycotting some brands or business which can not sell products that respect environment is also part of the Consom’Action.
Recently, an alternative concept has appeared which is the buycott and which consists in purchasing a lot of products and services from a firm identified as environmentally friendly.
Why ?
People usually protest in the streets or go on strike to express their dissatisfaction.
The Consom’Action is simply an other way to communicate. When I worked as a seller in a company the last summer, I often heard my colleagues saying that “The client is king”. When you own a firm which provide goods and services or are working for one, you hate to admit that this is the truth. Here is the same. “Consumers are kings” because without them, you will lose money. Any production, market or economy collapses without customers. So, as a consumer, spending your money on green products has an impact on the society, the economy, but most of all, it definitely ameliorates the environment.
Where ?
If earning money is not always an easy thing, spending it takes only few minutes and you can do it everywhere. The thing is that Consom’Action doesn’t requires that you waste your money, but that you use it differently in order to act green and help the environment. Next time for example, when you’ll go to the supermarket to buy food, try to think differently before choosing a product : Where does it comes from ? It is a local product ? It is labelled “Fair trade” ? How is it manufactured ?
You can also directly buy your product in chain stores specialized in selling organic and fair trade products such as “Biocoop” or “Naturalia” in France.
For who ?
We are all consumers so Consom’Action is for each of us. Changing our consumption’s habits isn’t that difficult when we understand why we are doing this and what effects it can have on the world’s we are living in.
As Nelson Mandela once said : « Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world ».
Ecologic interest ?
Definitely ! Consom’Action inspires and helps eco-friendly producers to manufacturing more and more of their goods and because of that, green companies, products and services can be more and more developed.
Negative points :
- I have thought about it since I began to write this article. I tried but I still really can not find any negative point of Consom’Action
Positive points :
- It has a fair impact on the environment
- You get impendence from this actual consumerism society
- You help green producers to develop
- Organic and local products are better for health
