What ?
Yes, I know, you’re thinking that it’s one of those veganish thing and you think we’re going to be very moral about this.
NO !
We just want to inform you and to make you think more about it, it is only up to you, but I hope that after reading this you will think more about eating LESS meat (not NO meat) than you used to.
Because we don’t realise it, but consuming meat is very polluting and it’s absolutely not good for your body to it meat at every meal. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t eat meat at all, but just that if you’re like me and you consume meat a lot, you may reduce a little your meat consumption and that wouldn’t be such a terrible thing.
Why ?
So let me get some points clearer :
- The meat industry is one of the most polluting in our world. “It [The Food production] is one the most important cause of emissions of greenhouse gases “. “Animal products, both meat and dairy, in general require more resources and cause higher emissions than plant-based alternatives.” Says a report from the UNEP (United Nation Environment Programme, dated of 2010)
Meaning : The food production, which includes meat production but also fruits, vegetables and cereals, is the most polluting industry, but the biggest part of this pollution is due to meat production. So yep, when we’re consuming meat, we’re polluting !
- According to nutritionists, you need to consume meat only 2 to 3 times a week maximum.
Here’s a food pyramid : from the top to the botom, the things you can eat in really small quantities, until the things that are good for you ! The protein part, in blue, is where you can find the meat. And unfortunately, it’s almost at the top, you shouldn’t consume loads of it, but you can eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (Yay !).
- Plus, as the WHO (The World Health Organization, not the rock band) recently showed, eating processed meat can lead to cancer (Yes, I know cancer can by caused by a lot of things but still !), and it can also have a negative impact on your cardio-vascular system. And trust me (as someone who has had heart problems) this is really not something you want to have.
- (ß You can find more intel here !)
Where ?
Well, anywhere, everywhere ! Just do it ! It’s actually quite simple and economic, because if there’s something that is sure it’s that meat is expensive.
For who ?
For everyone, of course with children you have to be more careful since their needs are different from ours, but in any case consume less meat (not less protein), cannot harm anyone.
Ecologic interest ?
It is less polluting, of course it depends of what kind of vegetables you consume but in any case it will still pollute less than meat.
Poll :
We decided to make a poll in order to see what was the meat consumption in case of budget, frequency, but also about which kind of meat (does the meat come from organic breeding or intensive farming), and if the people thought that it was important to buy meat coming from these breeding. (Unfortunately, we had to make our poll in french so we could have more responses)

Here are 4 graphics based on the answers that we had on our poll. What to know is that, most of the people (graph 1) consume meat 2 to 3 times a weeks which is the what is recommended by the deteticians. But on this consumption the number of people buying meat from organic breedings isn't that high, and 28% consume meat coming from intensive livestock (graph 2) and this is what should change, because intensive livestock pollutes a lot. Add to this that people scarcly consume meat coming from organic breedings (graph 3) and still 22.7% of those people (graph 4) don't think it's important to buy meat that comes from this breedings.
There is then still things to change when it comes to our meat consumption, because eating less meat is good, but we should be careful about the origin of what we buy. Intensive breeding can be very polluting, more that organic ones anyway.
P.S : only 76 persons answer this poll. This is NOT signicative numers, but we thought it would be still nice to have an idea of the opinion, see what people thought about it.
Negative points :
- Well you consume less meat. (Obviously)
Positive points :
-You’re having an healthier body
- You’re polluting less
